EDITORIAL
NEW CHALLENGES, NEW IDEAS: SHAPING EDUCATION IN 2025

We begin a new year with great enthusiasm and changes at JOTSE. As is customary in our first editorial of the year, we will present the journal's progress and outline the challenges ahead.

First of all, I would like to express my gratitude to María Martínez Martínez, co-founder of this journal and a cornerstone in its creation. Due to our strong friendship, she continued to accompany us in recent years, contributing with her tireless efforts and impeccable work. María is a meticulous person whose calm perspective has been invaluable to JOTSE. As a co-founder, we have shared all the stages of JOTSE’s creation and consolidation, watching it grow and hoping it will continue to thrive, bringing us joy that we can share from afar. We wish her all the best in this new stage of her life, which we hope she enjoys to the fullest, taking the well-deserved rest she has earned.

On the other hand, we warmly welcome new and younger members to the JOTSE editorial team: Paola Alvizuri Tintaya, from the Universidad Católica Boliviana “San Pablo”, Bolivia; Daniel Antonio Chuquin Vasco, from Ecuador; Hugo Heredia Ponce, from the Universidad de Cádiz, Spain; and Vanesa G. Lo Iacono Ferreira, from the Universitat Politècnica de València, Spain. I extend my sincere thanks to all of them, as JOTSE greatly values the people who make up its team.

Additionally, as we have traditionally done, we will present the evolution of the journal over the past few years. As shown in Figure 1, the objective of steady growth has been achieved over the last 14 years, even in the face of the challenges posed by the pandemic. Clearly, as our indexing has expanded, the number of article submissions to the journal has increased significantly. Our goal is to sustain this growth while maintaining the high quality of our content.

We are deeply grateful to the authors for placing their trust in us and sharing their meticulous work through JOTSE.

Regarding the articles published (as shown in Table 1), we can see the progression of volumes, issues, and articles released from 2011 to 2024. In 2020 and 2021, no special issues were published, which led to a slight decrease in the number of articles released in 2020. However, the increase in the most recent year has been more modest, yet it continues to follow the upward trend.

When analysing the percentage of rejected articles, we can see in the website of JOTSE that in year 2016 it was 36 %, in 2017 the figure rose up to 69 %, in 2018 it was 64 %, in 2019 it was 63 %, in 2020 it was 49 % (a little less than before), in 2021 it was 57,14 %, in 2022 it was 54,23 %, in 2023 it was 60 % and in 2024 it was 81 %. As evident from the data, the rejection rate of the journal falls within the range of 55 % to 81 %, indicating a notably high level of selectivity. Although if we have a look in more detail at the numbers in 2024, of 475 received, only 19  % go through the review process and of these 81 % are rejected.

These figures reflect the dedication and precision of the work carried out by the journal's team. It is essential to acknowledge the vital contribution of JOTSE's editorial team and reviewers, who approach their roles with exceptional quality and remarkable generosity. Their efforts are indispensable to the publication of our journal, and for that, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to each of them for their continued support.

Conclusion

In summary, the main goals for 2025, as highlighted in this opening editorial, include further extending our presence to additional countries, striving for steady growth while upholding our dedication to quality, and working to improve indexing this year as a key factor.
